Demonstrating a Practical Pathway for Scaling Next-Generation Cement Technology Through Microsoft-Fortera Collaboration
Location: Redmond, Washington Date Poured: August 31, 2026As part of its collaboration with Fortera to accelerate the adoption of lower-carbon building materials, Microsoft is putting innovation into practice with the use of Fortera’s ReAct® Blend in concrete for a new facility on campus.
ReAct Blend was incorporated as a supplementary cementitious material (SCM), reducing reliance on conventional portland cement while delivering the performance, constructability, and durability required for the project.
The project demonstrates how the Microsoft–Fortera collaboration extends beyond investment and carbon reduction commitments to real-world deployment. By incorporating ReAct Blend into Microsoft infrastructure, the companies are demonstrating a practical pathway for scaling next-generation cement technologies using existing ready-mix operations and conventional construction practices.

“Collaborating with Fortera gives Microsoft an opportunity to help scale low-carbon building materials solutions while putting them to work in our real estate footprint. Scaling low-carbon building materials requires innovations that meet high performance standards and that integrate into standard construction practices. The concrete pour at Microsoft’s headquarters is a tangible step toward broader adoption and helps create a pathway to scale.”
